Stay Safe

Having a good night out is high on the agenda and there’s always an excuse to go out: Freshers week, coming back to uni after your summer break, birthdays...

But remember, a few drinks can quickly turn into a few more followed by shots, cocktails and treble vodkas. Make sure that your night out does not turn into a nightmare by protecting yourself and your friends. Remember, you will face the consequences if you act in an anti social or criminal way.

Choose to drink in pubs, bars or clubs that display the Best Bar None logo. They have been awarded for providing safe venues for their customers to socialise in by reducing alcohol related problems and promoting responsible drinking.

Never walk home alone. Meet up with your friends, use the Metro or get a taxi. If you choose the latter, use a marshalled taxi rank at

  • Central Station
  • The Bigg Market
  • The Gate

These are marshalled by the police to reduce anti-social behaviour and to make sure people get home safely.

If you are in a situation where you need to walk home

  • walk with a group of people
  • keep to well lit paths on the main routes out of town
  • avoid shortcuts, alleyways and deserted areas like car parks
